RELIABLE AND DURABLE BOND BETWEEN OLD AND NEW CONCRETE IN THE PARTIAL REPAIR OF CONCRETE ROAD PAVEMENTS

Project duration: 01.01.2023 - 01.01.2025

In view of the increasing traffic load in combination with hygric and thermal stress as well as freeze-thaw stress, ever higher demands are made on the durability of concrete pavements. In this context, the structural preservation of traffic surfaces is becoming increasingly important. For the successful application of a thin-layer repair, the bond between the base concrete and the new concrete plays an important role. In addition to the concrete properties, the surface roughness of the old concrete has a decisive influence on the bond behavior. Based on a literature research, adequate methods for the preparation of the subgrade for a permanent formation of the bond are detected in laboratory tests, taking into account the typical stresses for concrete road pavements.
